I wish my associate had kept the receipt, but, Taco Bell needs to work on their site integration with their stores: there’s nothing worse than a broken promise.
I text messaged Richard to pick me up three items off the “Big Bell Value Menu” where all items are .99- of course I can’t send a link, because they build their site in Flash- just like all the rest of the big chains- not searchable, not bookmarkable- and really, not that useful with it’s “pop-a-mole” navigation system. Never mind there aren’t actuall descriptions of what are in any of the items. There are so many things that a site for a national fast food restaurant could do- but unfortunately, none of them understand web 2.0
I ordered the Zesty Nachos, Grande Soft Taco and the Double Decker taco. When Richard got to the register- the girl had no clue. I ended up with three items that were similar to the items I ordered, but they came to $3.79.
Taco Bell just failed me over .82 cents- and now I remember why I don’t make a run for the border very often.
I have to disagree with you in regards to your critique of using Flash. If used correctly, Flash sites can be programmed to be indexed by search bots, to be bookmarked (or send absolute links) not to mention be more than usable. It takes creative thinking and solid engineering. Taco Bell might not have it right, but plenty of us in the interactive industry do.
Give me a shout if you’d like to learn more. I’m right down the road in Cincinnati.
Josh,
Glad you are there at Barefoot, because, your companies site used to be just as bad. In fact, we still have people looking for your site- show up at ours.
There is absolutely NO REASON whatsoever for Flash to be used on a fast food menu site- for all the extra coding involved, and for the failure to deliver a 508 compatible site (for the blind).
Flash has its place- for when you need motion and sound to explain something- or deliver a message- but to tell us what’s on your menu- absolutely not- all it does is keep Flash programmers fat and happy.
Flash can also kill modem users- causing site abandonment- or force you into developing 2 versions of the site- all bad business propositions.
Yes- we know how to do Flash- and thank your for your offer, but, for now- none of our clients would be well served by a Flash solution.
